The project in Björkeby, Järfälla, consist of a new care home. It is being developed by Sehlhall in collaboration with Järfälla kommun, with Consto acting as design and build contractor. Construction began in July 2025 and is planned to be completed in Autumn 2026. The scheme will comprise 54 apartments and focuses on sustainability (including, for example, Miljöbyggnad Silver certification). The development will also include a green courtyard and a rooftop terrace.
Consto is an established construction contractor with an active climate agenda. The group has committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2045 and has set a target that, by 2027, all projects will be delivered fossil-free during the construction phase.
Both Sustera and Consto are members of the Sweden Green Building Council (SGBC) and actively focus on projects certified under Miljöbyggnad, BREEAM and the Nordic Swan Ecolabel for residential developments.
Consto has also set clear targets to reduce construction waste volumes, with a minimum waste sorting rate of 95% across its projects.
“Choosing to implement Sustera’s climate-smart and economically sustainable construction heating solution, GEOLO, at the Björkeby project is fully aligned with Consto’s overarching sustainability and environmental strategy. We now look forward to a smooth and successful delivery of the project. It will be both exciting and valuable to follow the project’s progress and, ultimately, to measure the outcomes upon completion to confirm that our work has met our climate objectives,” says Jonas Algotsson, Head of Business Support at Consto.
Optimal conditions throughout the construction process
Throughout the construction phase, GEOLO operates via a connected control and monitoring system that continuously regulates both temperature and humidity within the buildings. The solution ensures optimal drying conditions, supports proper material management and creates a stable production environment. Performance reports are generated and submitted to the client on an ongoing basis.
Emission-free production conditions – all year round
With the GEOLO solution, Sustera provides a temporary construction heating service that is virtually carbon-free, regardless of season. In addition to efficient heating, the system also delivers cooling during warm summer periods, improving on-site working conditions and contributing to a more efficient production programme.
GEOLO contributes to projects by delivering:
- Significantly reduced energy consumption
- Lower climate impact
- A stable and predictable production rate
- Improved working conditions
- A more sustainable and future-proof building
- Significantly lower operating costs
“On 8 December, our GEOLO station arrived at the Björkeby project in Barkarby. The unloading of the GEOLO container and the installation of the full system were completed according to plan – entirely without complications. GEOLO is now connected to the boreholes for ground-source heating, and all temporary heating units are fully operational. Based on our monitoring data, the system is delivering an efficient, stable and climate-smart indoor temperature. The project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 60% by utilising ground-source energy and GEOLO as the temporary heating solution, compared with alternatives such as pellet-based heating,” says Peter Sunvisson, Sweden Business Director for GEOLO at Sustera.
