The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) frames Raksystems’ climate efforts in the coming years

At Raksystems, we have significantly advanced our sustainability efforts in recent years. In the spring of 2023, we developed Raksystems’ Sustainability Program, which will guide our sustainability efforts in the coming years. Our strategy can be explored in detail in our 2022 Sustainability Report.

In the fall of 2023, we took another significant step in Raksystems’ environmental work when Raksystems Group signed the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitment.

SBTi is an internationally recognized and respected initiative with the ambitious goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. In practice, this means that companies must set science-based climate targets that can demonstrate a real reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

Such targets include, for example, increasing own energy production with solar power or transitioning to electric vehicles. For instance, emission compensation is not accepted as a target.

SBTi work refines our carbon footprint calculation

Setting targets in accordance with SBTi is a two-step process. The first step is signing the commitment, after which the actual work begins.

At Raksystems, we have been calculating our carbon footprint since 2019. Now, as part of our SBTi work, the calculation has been refined and expanded to cover all our company’s direct and indirect emissions, including emissions from our supply chain in Finland and Sweden.

In practice, this means emissions from purchased services or products. Based on the results, we will define emission reduction measures and develop a roadmap for their implementation in early 2024.

These documents will be sent to SBTi for verification. Our goal is to have an approved target at Raksystems by 2024.

We are aiming for lower emissions in the supply chain as well

Our carbon neutrality work at Raksystems truly begins in the coming years as we start implementing the measures defined in the roadmap. We will monitor the progress of this work and the achievement of our goals annually through carbon accounting.

Additionally, we will continue to develop the calculation of our company’s significant emission sources and data collection.

Our goal is to find solutions on how we can encourage our partners to operate with lower emissions, thereby reducing the indirect emissions in our supply chain.
